Nik Dumas is a 2018 graduate from the University of Kentucky (UK) with a Master of Arts in Arts Administration and is a 2012 graduate from Boise State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Music.  During his time at Boise State University, Nik studied voice under the tutelage of Tiffany Calas from 2008-2012.  As part of his studies, Nik also focused on studying choral conducting under Dr. C. Michael Porter.  Thanks to his work with UK, Nik has an immense knowledge of what it takes to operate an arts organization.  

 

Previously, Nik has worked with a variety of organizations over the years developing a keen sense of non-profit organization operations from finances to artistic presentations.

As the former Artistic Administrator for Opera Idaho (a post held for five years), Nik oversaw the artistic activities of the company.  During his tenure, he created the Opera Idaho Young Artists Program (re-named in 2021 as the Emerging Artists Program).  The goal of this program was to offer singers early in their careers the opportunity to work for an opera company full-time.  This included singing for special engagements, covering main stage roles, participating in student outreach programs, and singing comprimario roles as needed.  In return, participants were provided with a stipend, insurance, housing and weekly coaching sessions with teaching artists and visiting conductors.  In addition to being the chief administrator for the EAP program, Nik also oversaw all operational and financial aspects of the artistic endeavors of Opera Idaho.

 

Nik got his start in the arts at the young age of 15 as a singer.  In the years following, Nik has been chorister, conductor, soloist and board president of many arts organizations.  Not only does Nik have a firm understanding of the arts but also makes his approach to issues from the artist point-of-view.  This way he can ensure that solutions that are brought about are not only for the benefit of the organization, but that artists are fairly represented as well.
